HBO's 24/7 to feature Pacquiao-Cotto

MANILA -- Boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao will be making his third appearance in the Emmy Award-winning HBO documentary series "24/7" as it features the preparations leading to his November 14 fight with Puerto Rican champion Miguel Cotto.

According to ESPN.com, the new four-episode series will debut on October 24 (in the US) with the remaining episodes on October 31, November 7 and November 13.

As in the previous series, the final episode will air on the eve of the fight, which will allow HBO to cover the weigh-in ceremonies.

"The '24/7' franchise provides an engaging and accurate look into the lives of boxers as they toil and sacrifice to get ready for a huge showdown in the ring," Ross Greenburg, president of HBO Sports, said in the ESPN report.

"Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto are dynamic individuals in and out of the ring, and our cameras will be there to capture all the drama prior to their fall face-off," he added.

The first time Pacquiao was featured in the 24/7 series was when he was preparing to fight boxing great Oscar de la Hoya, whom he defeated by technical knockout in December 2008.

The hard-punching Pinoy was also featured by the HBO documentary while he was training for his match against Ricky Hatton. He knocked out the British champion in just two rounds last May.

Pacquiao is currently training in Baguio City for his World Boxing Organization welterweight title clash with Cotto, the reigning champion.

He is reportedly considering flying to US ahead of schedule because of the inclement weather in northern Luzon.

US billboard features Pacquiao

The Filipino champion has indeed become popular as he now has a billboard in Los Angeles, California for a sports brand he endorses.

Pacquiao is the first Filipino athlete to be featured on giant billboard in the States.

"He's the biggest star in the Philippines and what this billboard shows is not only is Manny like the biggest icon but shows the marketing power of the Filipino community," said events promoter Alex Ritodo.

The billboard has become a tourist attraction of sorts as several fans had they pictures taken in front of the billboard.

"For him to be on an actual billboard, that's a big statement. Manny Pacquiao is the man. He's the hero of the Philippines. Everyone loves him over here in America and I think it's good timing especially with the fight coming up soon," said one Pacquiao fan. With a report from Dyan Castillejo
